On February 20, 2024, the Association Footvolley for All (AFFA), in partnership with the Footvolley Association of Ghana, engaged in a clean-up exercise at Sir Charles Beach at Winneba, in the central region of Ghana.
The exercise featured participants from the Benin Footvolley Federation, the Kenya Footvolley Federation, local teams, and a delegation of AFFA who are in Ghana as resource persons, instructors, and participants in both the footvolley training camp and the Ghana International Footvolley Cup.
Most of the coastal communities in the country are in a bad state due to the intensity of the plastic waste that was washed from the land to the sea. The beaches have now turned into dumping sites for many natives within the coastal communities.
Our ultimate goal is to grow and make footvolley accessible to all, regardless of geographical boundaries, gender, age, and others. It’s for this reason that we see it as necessary to keep the environment clean, especially the beaches within the country and beyond. Based on our observation, we have realized that the survivors of footvolley and beach sports in general solely depend on trash-free beaches.
